The Hand

James was a caretaker at a cemetery,
and fairly unhappy with his job. He didn’t find his
pay very satisfactory. He often snuck jewelry
off the did and sold or pawned it. He made
a decent amount, enough to move out of
his shack on the cemetery grounds.

But it was still not enough for him. He still
wanted more, enough to quit his job and live
a little wilder and freer than he currently felt.
And one day, it seemed he caught a break
a rich lady would be buried in the cemetery
soon, and rumor had it she had a fake hand
made out of gold.

And indeed it was. It was a glorious sight to
behold. It didn’t function, but it didn’t have to.
All that mattered is how valuable it would be.
He removed the gems from around the wrist
and melted down the gold, and made a mold
to shape it like a bar. He sold it and picked
up a considerable sum.

That night however, James found himself
unable to sleep. The wind was too loud,
and seemed to be calling out for a hand. He
thought this was just him imagination playing
tricks on him, so he just watched some
television. But then the calling got louder.

“Who has my hand? Whoooooo?
Whooooooooooo?” James was startled by
that. And it kept getting louder. “Go away!
I don’t have your hand!” “Whooooo haaaas
myyyyy haaaaand? Whooooo? Whoooooo?”
James grabbed a pistol he kept for protection,
and then noticed a head coming out of the chimney.

“Gees lady! What do you have such big eyes
for?” James asked as soon as he saw her.
“Tooooo loooooook yooooou thrrrooough
and throoooooouuugh!” “Why do you
have such big teeth for?” “Tooooo griiiind
yooooooooooour booooooones!” “And why
is your remaining had made into a blade?”

At this, the lady jumped out of the chimney and
cut of James arm, leaving him to bleed to death.

The Cemetery Stairs

There are some stairs at the local cemetery that
seem to lead down to nowhere. Nobody knows
where they came from, as nobody would claim
to have put them there, nor did the cemetery
commission them. Investigation attempts often
don’t lead very far down, because after a few
steps, those who go down feel an instantaneous
sense of dread.

Those who go farther down are stricken with
madness, hearing voices and urges to do bad
things. And reports there are those who have
gone further down and gone permanently
mad, believing to hear the tortured screams
of the damned. This has yet to be confirmed,
however.

New Family in Town

Pleasantville was an average town full of normal people.
They didn’t care much for anything abnormal or out of the
ordinary. And they guarded their kids from anything amoral,
so you’d never see a R-rated movie before the 10 o’clock
curfew.

The paranormal, and anything too creepy or fantastic
was a big no-no in the community. So needless to say,
Halloween was not practiced here, and all channels
that broadcast Halloween channels would be blocked
during the season, and not one decoration could be
seen.

That is, before the McCready family moved into town.
They arrived in their large, Victorian style home just
a week before Halloween. And the very first thing
they seemed to do when they got there was decorate
in all the macabre trappings of the shunned holiday.

The kids, Jacob and Anna were picked on  in school
and nobody in town would hire poor Charles or Nicki,
their parents. In fact, people tried to drive them out
of town or just ignore them. But the McCreadys
were unshaken, and in fact seemed happy with
how they were treated.

Halloween night came around, but no trick-or-
treaters filled the streets. But Charles McCready
sat on their porch in an antique rocker with a big
bowl of children, waiting for children to come.
And eventually, one child gathered the courage
and defiance of his parents to go up and hold
out his hands. and say “trick-or-treat.”

And after him, more came, and got candy
from Charles. The night ended and everything
went well. The next day however, the children
of Pleasantville were gone. completely vanished,
along with the McCreadys.
